Malcolm Sydenham meets HRH The Duchess of Cornwall at the Bladon Church window unveiling

Malcolm Sydenham, County’s founder and Church Warden at St Martins was amongst the organising party who orchestrated an extremely well attended unveiling of the new stained glass window in the beautiful St Martin’s Church of Bladon, Oxfordshire.

The event commemorated the 50th anniversary of Sir Winston Churchill’s death. HRH, The Duchess of Cornwall attended a short service alongside Lord-Lieutenant Mr Tim Stevenson and other dignitaries including Their Graces The Duke and Duchess of Marlborough, The Revd Canon Adrian Daffern and children from Bladon C of E Primary School.

Bladon, Oxfordshire is where Churchill’s body was taken on the 30th January 1965 after his state funeral service at St Paul’s Catherdral, London. St Martin’s Church is visited by thousands of visitors each year and Sir Winston has a simple family grave in the churchyard, in accordance with his wishes.

A young stained glass award-winning artist, Emma Blount designed this window to reflect Christian heritage. It also includes representations of Sir Winston’s life and work.
