On the way to the show, we understood rain had been forecast for the morning and again later in the afternoon. Although dark clouds were already gathering, we were fortunate to get the marquee set up in readiness to greet our friends before the rain arrived.
When the rain arrived, it was gentle and even welcomed by some. With macs on and hoods up, we greeted familiar friends and new faces alike, offering everyone a continental-style breakfast with freshly baked croissants.
As the morning progressed, the rain stopped and the showground came alive with activity, as visitors enjoyed everything the Bucks County Show had to offer.
Our stand was positioned opposite the cattle ring, which made it especially enjoyable to watch the judging of the various breeds. There were around 60 classes in total, with handlers ranging in age from 8 to 80. We could see & feel the excitement build when the judging was done for the interbreed beef title which was won by the continental champion, Seawell Tabago (as photo below). Our thanks to to all the farmers who dedicated time to showing their cattle.
As lunchtime approached, friends began to arrive, many carrying bags filled with purchases from the show. They were grateful for the chance to take a break, enjoy a Ploughman’s lunch with us and chat about what they had seen and done during the morning.
After lunch, the sun came out and the first jug of Pimm’s was prepared. Tea and cake were warmly received by both familiar friends and new visitors who stopped by the stand for a chat.
At 4pm, an electrical storm warning was announced and the sky quickly darkened. As visitors made their way back to their cars, we decided it was time to begin packing away and taking down the tents. Although we were all rather damp by the end, we agreed it had been a very good day at Bucks County Show and were already looking forward to returning in 2027.
