As a principal and long standing sponsor of this prestigious event, County Insurance Services Ltd is proud to play such an active part in the success of this important event in the farming calendar.
Held over 2 days for the second year running and with over 30,000 top quality breeding and feeding sheep entries, the show certainly lived up to expectations with top prices of the day and the best average seen in the Suffolk x Mule shearlings where the best bid was a £175 call for a pen from Eddie Bulman. Overall average for the 5360 Suffolk cross shearlings sold was a healthy £123.10, up £10 on last year.
The quality of the sheep on offer was first class and this fair continues to be the benchmark by which all other shearling sales are judged.
Streams of early birds called to our stand and greeted with tea and coffee, a great kick-start to the day, our visitors were certainly well looked after with homemade cakes, home-baked ham baguettes and Red Lion Farms pulled pork rolls with barbeque sauce.
Our guests were kept entertained with a Guess Who competition (devised by Tim’s son, Joe) where entrants had to guess the names of 14 farming linked characters.
The top three entries were entered into the Guess Who prize draw with Kevin Hall’s entry winning, his prize a new Sony digital radio proved integral with visitors and staff giving up-to-speed Ashes Test updates!
Red Lion Farms in South Oxfordshire, supplied a meat hamper for our prize draw. The lucky winner was Mr John Wallington, J Wallington in Lugershall, Bucks.
We are fortunate at County Insurance Ltd to be involved in events like The Thame Sheep Fair and each year we get to meet a terrific bunch of people. We consider ourselves very lucky and look forward to doing it all again at next year’s event!
